Spring Activities in Clinton County

By ALYSSA VanGORDER Central Mountain 3 min read

As Robin Williams once said, "Spring is nature's way of saying, let's party!" Spring is upon us once again. The only season that you can get a four-in-one deal. In a single day.

When it isn't raining, the warm sun is a nice reward for the odd winters of Pennsylvania. Despite the mood swings of Mother Nature, there are so many fun things to do in spring.

Some popular activities around here are camping, hiking, and fishing. Spring sports are also in full effect now and games are underway.

Are you tired of just going home and sitting there after school or work? The springtime is the perfect time to try some fun new things outside. The weather isn't too warm yet and the cold is starting to fade away. (Lets ignore the snowstorm that hit in the middle of April.) A couple of students around Central Mountain High School talked about their favorite things to do in the spring.

A big thing that was talked about was hiking. Hiking is a good way to see some of the amazing views around here and to get exercise.

Maddie Bair and Sydney Cooper explained that they love hiking because of the views that you get at the end. Both of them love nature.

"You kind of forget that hiking is kind of a workout because you get so distracted by everything around you. You see something and want to keep walking to see what else you can find," Sydney explained.

Maddie loves to take pictures of the scenery when she hikes. There are lots of places to hike in Clinton County. A good place to start is Zindel. The trails are fairly flat and are open to the public. For a great view, go to Hyner a little further away in North Bend, Pa. To find some waterfalls, try Loganton. Don't forget your water.

Another big thing around here is fishing. Mainly trout. The first day of fishing was April 2 this year. Good places to go around here are Pine Creek and Fishing Creek.

Pine Creek is about 30 minutes away and the perfect place to get a break from the real world and catch some fish. Fishing Creek is a great local creek that goes right through Mill Hall.

"I really enjoy fishing because its calming," Drew VanGorder replied when asked why he likes fishing.

Camping is a fun family activity for a weekend away. Camping almost ties in all the fun activities into one. You can hike, fish, and have some good friendly Cornhole games. Spring is also a good time for some campfires. Sitting around a fire talking, sharing stories, and maybe roasting some marshmallows is always a fun thing to do when you're camping.

As long as the weather permits, there is always something to do in the spring. If none of the activities talked about interest you, maybe try gardening. Go to the greenhouse, even just to look at the flowers. But, it never hurts to try. So get outside and enjoy the weather. The memories you could make can last a lifetime.
