Human remains positively identified as Alex Mardis

LOCK HAVEN – It’s official.

The human remains recovered along the Susquehanna River in Pine Creek Township on July 2, have been positively identified as those of Alex F. Mardis, a 31-year-old local man who disappeared Oct. 30, 2019, according to a press release from the office of Clinton County Coroner Zach Hanna.

An investigation by state police at Lamar began shortly after Mardis was reported missing in October 2019. He was last seen on Oct. 30, 2019, fishing in the Susquehanna River in Wayne Township.

Although many believed that the remains were those of Mardis, the coroner said that could not be positively determined until further investigation and more forensic tests were completed due to the condition of the body.

“That investigation has now concluded. Positive identification by means of DNA analysis determined that the remains were that of Mr. Alex F. Mardis, a 31-year-old male from Pine Creek Twp., Clinton County.

“Following extensive investigation and forensic analysis, neither the cause nor manner of death could be determined,” according to the release.
