LOCK HAVEN – After two weeks of delays, the Pedestrian Mall in downtown Lock Haven has received the green light and will open this weekend.
Main Street from its intersection with Jay Street to Vesper will be closed to traffic at 3 p.m. Friday and reopen at 10 p.m. Saturday.
The Pedestrian Mall first began in 2020 as a way to help local restaurants and store owners offer outdoor dining and curbside sales while keeping in line with COVID-19 guidelines brought on by the Center for Disease Control and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
This year, Downtown Lock Haven Inc., with the help of city staff, has gotten approval to continue the street closure from PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration.
The street closure will be in effect throughout the summer on specific weekends including the last two weekends in May.
In June, July and August the street will be closed every other weekend including: June 11-12 and 24-26; July 9-10 and 30-31; and Aug. 13-14 and 27-28.
In September, the streets are expected to be closed every weekend.
“There are many exciting things planned for Summer 2021 in Downtown Lock Haven,” DLH Manager Marie Vilello said. “Let the summer begin!”
