JERSEY SHORE - Less than an hour after a man was shot and critically wounded Friday afternoon on Vilas Drive, just north of the Thomas Street interchange, the suspected gunman was reportedly in custody, according to reports from the scene.
It was reported that the victim may have suffered as many as five gunshot wounds, including two to an upper shoulder.
The shooting occurred about 1:25 p.m.
It was believed that footprints in fresh snow helped officers track the gunman, who had fled the shooting scene on foot after supposedly driving to Vilas Drive.
Numerous police officers swarmed to the neighborhood to help with the search.
It was reported that officers had "one at gunpoint" and in custody just after 2 p.m. The exact location of where the apprehension took place was not known at this hour, but it was believed to be not far from the interchange.
Once apprehended, the suspect was handed over to state police, who may be leading the investigation.
While a suspect was in custody, officers were still trying to locate the handgun, according to reports at the scene.
A tracking dog from the Williamsport Bureau of Police was brought to the scene to help look for the gun and any other evidence the gunman may have discarded while fleeing.
There was no information about the condition of the gunshot victim.
