Bellefonte Borough council to take action on police items tonight
BELLEFONTE — Bellefonte Borough Council will hold its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight. At this meeting the following action items, related to police services, will be considered by council:
— A formal acceptance of resignations from Officer Matthew Pollock, Officer Jason Brower, and Chief Shawn Weaver.
— A formal designation of Detective William Witmer as Acting Bellefonte Borough Police Chief.
— Action to select police officer candidates from Bellefonte’s Eligibility List.
— Approval of Borough Manager to begin the hiring process for a permanent Chief of Police.
Mayor Gene “Buddy” Johnson will introduce Acting Chief William Witmer.
“I support Acting BPD Chief Witmer and have great confidence in his leadership abilities,” Johnson said.
During this time of transition, Bellefonte Borough officials want to thank their long-standing partners in providing police services to the citizens of Bellefonte Borough: Spring Township Police and the Pennsylvania State Police.
Bellefonte Borough is one of five remaining municipal police departments in Centre County and is the smallest in number of employed officers/geographical coverage area, according to a release from the borough.
