Non-credible bomb threat made at Centre County Elections Office
BELLEFONTE — The Willowbank Building in Bellefonte, Pa., which houses the Centre County Elections Office, was temporarily evacuated to investigate a bomb threat received via email to the Elections Office on Tuesday night, according to a release from Centre County Government officials.
Centre County is among roughly a dozen Pennsylvania counties to receive threats.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Willowbank Building was cleared for about an hour while state and local police investigated the threat and swept the building.
After completing the sweep, state and local police deemed the threat to be non-credible and allowed employees to return to the building.
As of 8:20 p.m., employees were back in the building and continuing all operations.
County Administrator, John Franek, Jr., said, “The Elections Office and ballots were under constant supervision while the building was swept.”
In a release, the FBI said they were aware of bomb threats to polling locations in several states, including Georgia and Arizona.
According to the FBI, many of the emails appear to originate from Russian email domains. None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far.
“Election integrity is among the FBI’s highest priorities. We will continue to work closely with our state and local law enforcement partners to respond to any threats to our elections and to protect our communities as A
