State police ID victims in Sunday morning house fire
SALONA – State police at Lamar have identified the seven victims in a house fire that took place at 797 Long Run Road, Lamar Township Sunday morning.
According to reports filed by Trooper Stephen Schramm of the State Police Fire/Explosion Investigation Unit, the victims were 34-year-old Sara B. Stoltzfus and six children – an 11-year-old son, 10-year-old son, 8-year-old daughter, 6-year-old daughter, 5-year-old son and 3-year-old son.
Police say calls for the fire went out at about 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning for reports of an explosion and structure fire with entrapment.
Upon arrival, police said fire department units confirmed the seven occupants were entrapped but, due to the structure being fully involved on arrival, there was no ability to search for the victims.
Though an investigation into the origin is ongoing, police say a propane leak in the interior of the residence is a possible cause.
“It should be noted the exterior propane tanks did not explode nor were they contributing factors of the explosion/fire,” according to the report.
Schramm along with his unit from PSP Montoursville is conducting the origin and cause investigation, along with a death investigation which is ongoing.
