Helen K. Shawley

Helen K. Shawley, 96, of Milesburg, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home.

Born on April 2, 1925, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Harry V. and Nettie (Stein) Keeler.

Helen graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1944. She worked for 21 years at the Pennsylvania State University as a records clerk in the Dairy and Animal Science Department. After retirement, she worked as a part-time receptionist for 11 years at Health South of Nittany Valley in Pleasant Gap.

She also volunteered at the Centre County Library, Centre Crest, Faith United Methodist Church, and the Bellefonte Lunch Program.

She is survived by six daughters: Nancy S. Witherite of Spring Mills, Joyce E. Krout of Bellefonte, Rebecca L. Shuey of Florida, Mary Jane Pupa (Terry) of California, Susan S. Hunter (John) of Lock Haven, Barbara S. Ivicic (Gilbert) of Bellefonte, and son, Joseph A. Shuey, Jr. of Texas. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph A. Shuey, Sr., second husband, David M. Shawley; her siblings: Harry S. Keeler, Kenneth F. Keeler, Jay R. Keeler, Robert Keeler, Elizabeth “Betty” Swartz, Mary Ellen Flack, Kathleen L. Johnson, and son-in-law, Don Witherite.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes St., Bellefonte. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., at the church, with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating.

Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to Faith United Methodist Church at 512 Hughes Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823 or to Eagle Valley Personal Care Home at P.O. Box 8969, Milesburg, PA 16853.
