Larry M. Conaway, 77, of Bellefonte, was reunited with his wife in eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023. Born on March 9, 1946, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Marlin and Hilda (Stover) Conaway.
Larry grew up in Bellefonte. He was on the 1958 Bellefonte Little League State Championship team. In high school, he played baseball, basketball and football. He was recognized as an outstanding athlete and student. Larry graduated from Bellefonte Area High School in 1964.
Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving from 1966 to 1970. He was an aircraft electrician during the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge.
In 1973, Larry graduated from Penn State University and he married his wife of over 48 years, Sharon McMurtrie, who preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2021.
After many years of teaching, Larry retired from the Sun Area Career and Technology Center in the early 2000s. In retirement, Larry worked for State College Ford, driving auction cars and dealer trades. He also enjoyed going to State College Spikes games, where he was a season ticket holder for many years. In addition to being a Spikes fan, he was also a life-long Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
Larry was a caring man with a good sense of humor. He loved his family very much and cherished every memory made with his wife and son.
Larry is survived by his son, Matthew, of Bellefonte; two sisters, Marlene Conaway of Bellefonte and Candy Buchanan and her husband, Dave, of Del.; and three nephews, Jason Buchanan of Del., Craig Buchanan of Md. and Scott Oesterling and his wife, Sara, of Mexico.
Following Larry's wishes, there will be no services.
