Barry Eugene Smith, Sr.

Barry Eugene Smith, Sr., 77, of Seymour, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024.

Barry grew up in Bellefonte, Pa., and graduated from Bellefonte Area High School in 1964.

After high school, he joined the Marine Corp to serve his country. Barry went to Vietnam in 1965 and was with the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines. After serving 13 months in Vietnam, he went on to be Sergeant of Guard of Presidents Johnson and Nixon’s Presidential helicopter.

Barry was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Knoxville, Tenn.

He loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved granddaughter, Kaylea.

Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl, Sr. and Janet Smith, and his brother, Carl Smith, Jr.

Barry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda (Sampsell) Smith; a son, Barry (Jennifer) Smith, Jr.; a granddaughter, Kaylea Smith; a sister, Sherry (Tom) Carns; along with several nieces, nephews and family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024, at Valley Grove Baptist Church from 9:30-11 a.m., followed by a service with Rev. Keith Vaughan officiating. Private interment will be later at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
