Albert L. Young, Jr.
Albert L. Young, Jr., 87, of Spring Mills, entered into his eternal rest on Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at the Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born on Oct. 3, 1936 in Curtin Township, he was the son of the late Albert L. and Sarah (Kessling) Young, Sr.
On April 11, 1959 in Bellefonte, he married Ellen M. Tressler, who preceded him in death in 2008.
Al earned his GED and then enlisted with the United States Air Force in 1954. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He earned the rank of Airman First Class, the Good Conduct Medal with a bronze loop, the Good Conduct Medal with one bronze star and the Air Force Longevity Service Award with a bronze oak cluster, prior to his honorable discharge in 1963.
After the service, he was a construction laborer for the Local 824 Union. Al was proud to be a member of the union for 50 years.
He was a post member of the Keystone American Legion Post 444 in Millheim for many years. He was also a lifetime member of the Undine Fire Company in Bellefonte.
He was a man of service, from serving his country to serving his community and family. He was a proud veteran that took the time to fix the Fountain of Veterans that is located at the Old Gregg School in Spring Mills.
He enjoyed hunting as long as his body allowed him to. He was a sweet and endearing man that loved his family very much. He loved his canine companion, “Tiny,” and cherished the memories they made together.
Al is survived by five children, Terry E. Strouse and her husband, Joe, of Howard, Paul H. Young and his wife, Jody, of Spring Mills, Lisa M. Komidar and her husband, Frank, of Kane, Albert L. Young, III, and his wife, Sherri, of West Decatur, and Barry D. Young, of Spring Mills; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jennifer Musser (Chris) and her daughter, Elizabeth Weaver; Mindy Dibert; Chris Dibert (Michelle) and their children, Colton and Nolan; Sarah Brawley (Cole) and their child, Kash; Diana Young; Shawn Young (Samantha) and their child, Audrey; David Young; and Cameo Strouse and her child, Oliver DeArmitt; one brother, Ronald Young, of Milesburg; and four sisters, Betsy Ripka, Lois Yakich, Mary Shawley and Judy Bishop, all of Bellefonte.
Along with his parents and wife, Al was preceded in death by six siblings, Ella Mae Weaver, Harry Young, Clair Young, Rich Young and two infant sisters.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 2-4 p.m., at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte.
Military honors will be accorded at 4 p.m. at Lambert Hall.
Al will be laid to rest privately next to his wife at the Advent Cemetery in Moose Run, Boggs Township.
The family is requesting no flowers to be sent. Al would have preferred that money being used to support our veterans and their families.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Centre County Veterans Assistance Fund, PO Box 546, Centre Hall, PA 16828 or to a local veterans program of the donors choice.
