Lou Ann Masden, 67, of Mackeyville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
Born on Aug. 14, 1956, in Jersey Shore, she was the daughter of the late James Bitner and Sara (Blackwell) Bitner, who survives. On Feb. 26, 1977, in the Blanchard Church of Christ, she married her beloved husband, George E. Masden, who survives her at home after sharing nearly 47 years of marriage together.
Lou Ann was a 1974 graduate of Lock Haven High School. She worked for the North Central District Aid Coalition for 25 years until she retired as the Executive Director in 2020.
In addition to her mother, Sara, and husband, George, she is survived by her brother, Todd Bitner (Karen), and sister, Jolie Bitner, both of Blanchard, and sister-in-law, Esther Masden, of Beech Creek. Also surviving is a niece, Jessica Gagnon, of Maryland, and nephews, J.T. Bitner, of Blanchard, and Matthew Heverly, of Landenberg, Pa.
Lou Ann enjoyed in her spare time cooking, crafting, tending to her flower beds and being a traveler beside her husband. Together they explored the Highlands of Scotland. Her last trip before being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer was a two-month road trip winding thru Alberta, British Columbia, and Yukon to Alaska. She rode her own motorcycle through the mountains of North Carolina, along the coasts of Maine and Nova Scotia, and the majestic Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks.
She was a very strong and determined woman who did not like being told that she could not do something. But along with that strength came the most caring and giving person you could imagine. No matter who you were, no matter your demons or weakness, Lou Ann would listen to you, and she would inspire you to be a better person. She put others before herself. She always gave more than she took.
Not surprisingly, her favorite saying is, "Be the change you want to see in the world."
Funeral services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
