Philip Leroy Hassinger, 85, of Howard, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
Born on Nov. 1, 1938 in Walker Township, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Lucas) Hassinger.
On Feb. 26, 1960, he married his beloved wife, Nancy (Reed) Hassinger, who preceded him in death on Dec. 19, 2012, after sharing 52 years of marriage together.
Philip worked at the Office of the Physical Plant at Penn State until his retirement.
He is survived by two daughters, Lois A. Hassinger and Linda L. Young (Jeffrey), both of Howard; three grandchildren, Brooke Repine, Kasha Perry and Kolette Robinson; eight great-grandchildren, Jaden, Evan, Keegan, Jocelyn, Oakley, Emsley, Maelyn and Jameson; and a sister, Eleanor Leigey, of State College.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by an infant son in 1963, Jerry Leroy Hassinger; and siblings, Charles, Gilbert, Jr., William and Dorothy.
Philip enjoyed several activities that afforded him the chance to be outside; whether he was hunting, fishing, gardening or just tinkering around with things, he had a smile on his face! He looked forward to going out to eat with family and friends, and spending time at their family cabin, "Yellow Pine."
Philip was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. More than anything, he loved to spend time with his family, and could always be spotted in the bleachers or on the sidelines cheering on his grandchildren! They were his true joy in life.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte.
