Charles "Bill" William Hamby, 91, of Zion, Pa., passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. He was born in the Lock Haven Hospital on Aug. 25, 1932, to Wiley C. Hamby and K. Isabelle Herr.
He was married in 1957 to E. Diane Post in Tallma, N.Y., until her passing in 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Yost (Stephen Yost), and Karen Hamby. Also surviving are his only grandchildren, Brianna, Cassandra and Jacob.
We were blessed to have him in our lives, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was our rock in the family.
Bill was also preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Hamby; and a son, John Hamby. He married Carolyn McQueary, known as Sheri, in 2001, who also preceded him.
He graduated from Lock Haven High School and went on to Penn State University where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.
Bill served in the United States Air Force from 1955 until 1957. He resigned his commission in 1957. He then worked on various government contracts utilizing his electrical engineering degree.
He loved dogs, of which he had many during his lifetime. Every dog he owned or knew had a story that he shared.
Along with good food and good conversations, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He always had a great story about family, pets and places he'd been stationed at during his service, as well as his travels around the country.
In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Clearfield County SPCA.
