Earl E. Brown, Lt. Col. USMC Retired, of Selinsgrove, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa.
Earl was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Selinsgrove, Pa., son of Homer Brown and Daisy Miller Brown. On April 10, 1955, he married Ruth (Meyer) Brown, who survives him. They celebrated 69 years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Earl is survived by one son, Stephen Brown of Selinsgrove; one daughter, Kathryn Brown Chadbourn, Minn. and her husband David Chadbourn; two grandchildren, Lara and Calvin Chadbourn; one brother, Robert Brown and sister in law, Debbie Brown. Earl was preceded in death by two brothers, Leon Brown and William Brown.
Earl graduated from Lock Haven State College, 1955, was commissioned 2nd Lt, USMC, and started his military career as a flight student in Pensacola, Fla. Earl and Ruth began their married life in Pensacola.
Earl flew jets in squadrons located in Miami, Fla.; Beeville, Texas; Hawaii and two tours in Vietnam. Earl appreciated his 22 years in the Marine Corps.
Earl completed a masters in Operation Research, Systems Analysis at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, Calif. He was a member of The Society of the Sigma XI. Two of the last 3 tours, Earl was assigned to the Pentagon with the Marine Corps Headquarters, where he wrote computer programs.
In retirement Earl began a writing career with a history book published, "Commerce on Early American Waterways," a story of commercial transportation of goods on the Susquehanna River, immediately following the Revolutionary War. Earl continued to read, research and write.
Earl's love for life included family and a wide expanse of friends. He enjoyed sports, sailing, swimming, skiing and international travel. Earl was a Mason, a member in Selinsgrove. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, in Loganton, Pa. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Selinsgrove VFW, with a Masonic service and a Military ceremony. Lunch will follow.
Earl Brown lived life with gusto.
