Raymond Lee Shomo, 81, of Bellefonte, went to be with his Lord on Aug. 10, 2024.
Ray had a deep devotion and faith in the Lord. He was born on Sept. 20, 1942, in Johnstown, Pa. to the late Hubert and Meriam (Horner) Shomo.
He was a 1960 graduate of Johnstown High School and went on to receive his degree in Automotive Technology, working his first job at Leitenberger's Chevrolet.
Ray was then an Automotive Technology teacher at the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology from 1969 until his retirement in 2004. He was also a salesman for auto analyzers, traveling to garages in Centre County and surrounding counties in his spare time.
On April 1, 1967, Ray married his best friend and love of his life, Sonya J. Karchnak, who preceded him in death in March 2018. He and Sonya enjoyed traveling, as they made many trips to the beach and enjoyed cruises, and spending time with family.
Ray had a sweet love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had much pride in his family and treasured time spent with them while enjoying picnics, holiday gatherings, and the important traditions of each, playing games, traveling with them and much more. He will be greatly missed by his friends and loved ones. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing and photography. He was known for his great humor, quick wit and "Dad" jokes. His pleasant, friendly personality brought joy to those who knew him. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bellefonte.
Ray is survived by his children, Kathleen Ulmer (Michael), of Bellefonte, Jeffrey Shomo (Rosanne), of State College, and Matthew Shomo (Jyllian), of Silver Spring, Md.; grandchildren, Kyle Ulmer (Bethany), Kristi Stringer (Brian), Madison and Camryn Shomo, Raiden Shomo, Shayla and Daniel Growney; and his great grandchildren, Grady, Parker and Barrett Stringer; and Kayla, Kyle Jr., Adeline, and Tessa Ulmer. Ray is also survived by his siblings, his twin, Roger Shomo (Donna) of Onstead, Mich., and Janet Whysong (Harry) of Johnstown, Pa., along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, from 10 a.m.12 p.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, 512 Hughes St., Bellefonte. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m., at the church, with Rev. Andrew Morgan officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
