RICHARD STRAUB
Richard L. Straub, 94, of Castanea, passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2024 surrounded by his family.
Dick was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Lock Haven and was the son of the late Guy Straub Sr. and Grace Straub. On Aug. 18, 1950, he married Geraldine Eberhart. They celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on August 18.
Dick was a graduate of the former Lock Haven High School and was a veteran of the Korean war and served with the US Army. He was awarded the Army Good Conduct medal, Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service medal. He had been employed by Wire Mill, Hammermill, and S&S Plumbing & Heating.
He loved to hunt and fish in his earlier days. He was an avid wrestling fan and enjoyed his fair share of Penn State football games. He also enjoyed sightseeing and traveling with his wife Gerry. He adored his family and always enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to his wife, Gerry, he is survived by their children, Gaye Jarrett (John) of Jersey Shore, Rick Straub of Castanea; 4 grandchildren, Julee Brower (Phil) of Maryland, Johnny Jarrett of Jersey Shore, Tyler Jarrett (Trena) of Williamsport, Eric Jarrett (Ali) of Williamsport; 3 great grandchildren, Katelyn, Peyton and Paisley; a sister Dorothy Straub and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Sr. and Grace Straub and his brothers Guy Jr. & Bob Straub.
A memorial service will be held at the Flemington United Methodist Church, 225 High Street, at 12 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 13, 2024. Officiating will be Pastor Rick Conklin.
