Robert M. Witherite, Sr., 88, of Loganton, formerly of Pleasant Gap, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, after a long battle with dementia.
Born on July 14, 1936, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Reuben and Loretta Witherite. He married June Bubb, who passed away in September 1977. He later married Anna Mae Snook, who passed away in June 2023.
Robert graduated from Bellefonte High School. After growing up on the family farm outside of Pleasant Gap, he had a highly successful career in agriculture -- first with Farm Bureau/Agway in Pleasant Gap, and then with Webb's Super Gro in Mill Hall. He was a pioneer in the application of chemicals and pesticides with spray trucks on customers' farms to enhance crop production. He could be seen all over Centre and Clinton counties operating spray trucks on customers' fields. He was a mentor to many in this field.
He was a life member of the Pleasant Gap Fire Company. He enjoyed sports and loved Penn State, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting.
Robert is survived by three children, Robert M. Witherite, Jr. (Hilda), Kathy D. Witherite (Bob Miller), and Lee Ann Kuhn (Dan) and a stepson, Barry Snook (Kathy). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah Witherite, Ciara Semack, Bobby Miller, Dalton Kuhn, Dylan Kuhn and Chelsea Roche. He was also blessed with many great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Edward Witherite; two stepsons, Rick Snook and Ronnie Snook; a brother, Reuben O. Witherite, and two sisters, Elsie Witherite and JoAnn Warefield.
Robert was a resident of Haven Place Nursing Home for over three years. He was dearly loved by the staff and he dearly loved them. The family wishes to thank the staff for the great care that he received there and for making him feel like family, not just a resident.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, from 10-11 a.m., at Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, 179 S. Main St., Pleasant Gap. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Carrie Granche officiating. Burial services will immediately follow at Hublersburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Robert to the Pleasant Gap Fire Company, 475 Robinson Lane, Pleasant Gap, PA 16823.
