Dorothy J. Tressler

Dorothy J. Tressler, 97, of Lamar, passed away peacefully at the Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2024, surrounded by family.

Born on June 26, 1927 in Lock Haven, she was the daughter of the late R. LeRoy and Margaret Douty Bryerton.

On June 30, 1947, in Lock Haven, she married her true love and soulmate, John F. Tressler, Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2018.

Following her graduation from Lock Haven High School, Dorothy worked at the Montgomery Ward store in Lock Haven. After getting married, she dedicated herself to being a full-time homemaker until 1975, when she began working part-time at Lock Haven University on the custodial staff and as caretaker of the Seig Conference Center. She retired in 1989.

Dorothy very much enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends, watching game shows, as well as taking rides with John every morning when they ran errands for their son's business, Tressler's garage, in Lamar.

Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Cheryl K. Matthews of Lottsburg, Va.; three sons, John Jr. of Lamar, Jay and his wife Lynn of Zion, and James and his wife Sarah of Burke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Brian Matthews and Kelli Matthews, both of Annapolis, Md., Zachary (Despie Roddenberry) Tressler of Fort Worth, Texas, Zoey (Shaun) Glover of Millheim, Pa. and Juliette, Catherine and Veronica Tressler of Burke, Va.; three great-grandchildren: Beverley Jane, Demi-Leigh, and Gina-Laine Glover of Milheim; one sister, Pamela Rogers of Howard; and one brother, Samuel Bryerton of Duboistown, Pa.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Beverly Jane; son-in-law, Donald Matthews; sister, M. Louise Powers and brothers Richard, Bruce and Thomas Bryerton.

The funeral and burial at Zion Cemetery will be private as per Dorothy's wishes with Pastor Joan Gordon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 416, Lamar, PA, where Dorothy was a long-time member.
