Harry "Bub" Donald Rainey, Sr., moved on from this life on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024 at the age of 88 to join his beloved family, friends, co-workers and especially his hunting buddies who had preceded him into the next...
He was born March 20, 1936 in Arcadia, Pa., the son of Howard and Charlotte Rainey. He was married to his wife of 69 years, Janice Lorraine (Weaver) Rainey. Together they enjoyed a simple life raising their children, hanging with their neighbors and friends and living solid in their faith.
It is hard to capture the essence of a rich life with such a small sample. He had to sacrifice finishing school and sports to help with the family after losing their father at an early age. He worked with his uncles in the stone quarries as a young man up in the Pine Creek Valley involved with Rumming's flagstone operation. He learned early on how to do maintenance with not much to work with. He joined the National Guard in the maintenance division in Lock Haven in which he served for 11 years. As a truck driver he eventually drove for a company subcontracted to Jersey Shore Steel delivering rail, he then became a lifelong employee there before retiring on June 30, 1998.
His presence was felt throughout the community. He was a long-time member, trustee and assistant treasurer of the Jersey Mills Baptist Church. He was a member of the Waterville Fire Company as well as the Pine Creek Preservation Association. He was a mentor to many throughout his lifetime and he taught his kids to be self-reliant.
His interests were hunting, tinkering in the garage, old Ford tractors and fixing whatever anyone brought around. His garage served the neighborhood as a local hardware shop as he was a great collector of everything. Anyone who met him would immediately become a friend as he loved to talk to people. I know that when he and his best hunting buddies and longtime neighbors, Ron Bierly and Bob Moriarity that were inseparable in Waterville are reunited, they will have much to talk about in the next chapter...
He is survived by wife Jan; sons, Harry Jr. and Jeff; and daughter, Terri (Mark); six grandkids, 10 great-grandkids, and 1 great-great grandson; and a brother, John (Delores).
A visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, followed by a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. at Welker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in the Waterville Cemetery. The Rev. William Moore will officiate.
