Janet L. Barnhart, 76, of Jersey Shore, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024 in her hometown she loved.
She was born in Jersey Shore on Dec. 15, 1947, a daughter of Melvin and Victoria (Homler) Hauser. She was a 1965 graduate of Jersey Shore High School. She was very proud of her hometown and was elected and served as the 2nd Ward Borough Council Representative for over 15 years. She retired from Susquehanna Health, the former Williamsport Hospital after working 32 years as a lab technician.
Janet enjoyed the ocean and her family has many cherished memories of vacationing at the beach. She was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and a collector of Elvis memorabilia. She enjoyed cooking, baking cakes and sharing recipes. She was known for her love of an ice cold Coca-Cola and mints.
Janet's survivors include her children, Harvey "Butch" and Liz Barnhart, of Jersey Shore, Tammy Eckroth, of Lewisburg, and Jennifer Barnhart, of Jersey Shore. She was blessed with being "Mimi" to six grandchildren, Samuel (Erika) Barnhart, of Jersey Shore, Benjamin (Harley) Barnhart, of New Jersey, Caleb (Abbey) Barnhart, of Avis, Cass (Brittany) Fredrikson, of Florida, Alyssa (Jake) Barrett, of Milton, and Cody Eckroth, of Montgomery. She was a proud "Great Mimi" to 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Melvin "Buddy" Hauser, Jr. and a sister Kimberly Myers.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Hauser Decker.
In keeping with Janet's wishes, there will be no public visitation and her family will hold her Tribute of Life Service privately at a later date. She will be laid to rest in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
Her family suggests contributions be made to the Borough of Jersey Shore Summer Pool Fund, 232 Smith St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740.
