Joan Marie Shady, 79, passed away peacefully on Oct. 14, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., with her daughter Kati at her side.

Born on Aug. 31, 1945, in Renovo, Pa., Joan was the beloved daughter of Shirley Hale Cozzi and Patrick J. Cozzi. She grew up with a love for nature and a passion for making others smile.

Joan is survived by her children, Russell, Jason and Kati; as well as her cherished grandchildren, Sierra, Brock and Nash. She also leaves behind her dear sisters and brothers, along with a host of extended family and friends who will forever miss her warmth and generosity.

Joan had a heart as big as her love for flowers. Gardening brought her immense joy, and her vibrant gardens were a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She found great pleasure in making jewelry and generously gifting her handmade creations to everyone she met, leaving behind tokens of love and kindness that will be treasured by many.

Her battle with cancer was fought with quiet strength and dignity. Even in her final days, Joan brought light and laughter to the nurses and doctors who cared for her. Her resilience and humor made her an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and she faced each day with grace, never complaining, always smiling.

As we say goodbye, we find comfort in the beauty of nature, where we will see Joan in every flower, every garden and in the memories she leaves behind. Rest in peace, Joan. May you find peace in God’s garden, surrounded by the flowers you loved so much. Until we meet again, we love you.
