Malcolm "Bud" R. Shuey, 80, of Pleasant Gap, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.
Born on Feb. 25, 1944, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late James A. and Meda (Noll) Shuey. On Sept. 4, 1971, he married his beloved wife, Judith (Parnay) Shuey, who survives him at home after sharing 53 years of marriage together.
Bud was a 1962 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. After school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Crew Chief on a helicopter in the Vietnam War from June 1965 until he was honorably discharged in June 1967. Upon returning home, he went to Williamsport Area Community College, where he studied to become a machinist. He entered the workforce as a machinist for Huntington Ingalls Industries from 1971 until his retirement in 2009.
In addition to his wife, Judith, he is survived by two sisters, Louise Stover and Dorothy Moorehead (Danny) and a brother, Melvin Shuey (Molly).
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Jean, Bill, Buck, Barb, Shirl and James.
Bud was a simple guy who loved the little things in life. You could often catch him outside in his yard tending to his garden. He was an avid reader of anything except fiction! He especially loved reading poetry and about history and loved to tinker around with things. His loved ones will remember him for his quick wit and ability to make anyone laugh.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, from 6 8 p.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 8 p.m., at the funeral home, with Pastor Doug Conway officiating. Bud will be laid to rest in a private graveside service with full military honors.
