Elinor N. Jones (Nicholas), 97, of Centre Hall, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024.
Born on Nov. 3, 1927, in Tylersville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Verius M. and Margaret P. (Slaterbeck) Nicholas. On June 25, 1948, in Tylersville, she married the love of her life, Clair W. "Jim" Jones, Jr., who preceded her in death in Nov. of 2022.
Elinor graduated from Sugar Valley High School in 1944. She completed a course of study and earned a certificate in drafting from Penn State University. Upon completion, she was offered a job as the first female draftsman for Piper Aircraft. Later her career led her to be a draftsman for H.R.B. Singer and Applied Research Laboratory for more than 25 years prior to her retirement.
Elinor was a very active member of the St. Johns Union Church in Farmers Mills. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and playing cards. She adored spending time gardening and tending to her flowers. She liked to cook and was an excellent one at that. She was loving, caring and compassionate about all those around her. With all her passions in life, her biggest passion was her children and grandchildren. She adored and cherished them immensely.
Elinor is survived by a daughter, Karen Louise Jones, and her husband, John Mackie, and their son, Nicholas Mackie-Jones, of Arlington, Va.; a son, Brent William Jones, his wife, Patty, of Mill Hall and their children, Ross, Barry and James Beckum and Karen Beckum-Doty; a sister, Linda Morton and her husband, Charles, of Tamarack, Pa.; and two sisters in-law, Janet Nicholas, of Allentown, and Grace Nicholas, of Jersey Shore.
Along with her husband and parents, Elinor was preceded in death by her siblings, Karl "Scott" Nicholas, Thomas Nicholas, Gene "Mike" Nicholas and Audrey Gummo.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024, from 10 a.m. 11 a.m. at the St Johns Union Church in Farmers Mills. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lauretta Dietrich officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Tylersville Union Cemetery in Tylersville.
