Eugene (Gene) Edwin Counsil, 82, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at home. Born Jan. 6, 1943, in Lock Haven, he was the son of Alma Jane (Pickering) and the late Clyde (Pete) L. Counsil.
Gene retired as a civil engineer after 35 years from the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). He attended Penn State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was a member of ROTC. Gene was a US Army veteran who served three years in Germany. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hiking and fishing, and was a very talented woodworker. Spending time with his family was his greatest joy, especially attending his grandchildren's events.
Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 58 years, Lois (Day) Counsil; daughter, Karen (Counsil) and husband Jeff MacKay of Dillsburg; four siblings, Jerry (Peg) Counsil, Alicia (Bob) Peters, Tim (Cheryl) Counsil and Bill (Laurie) Counsil; daughter in law, Beth Counsil; four grandchildren, Emilia and Elijah Counsil and Alyssa and Ian MacKay; and great-grandson, Anton Digrugilliers. He was preceded in death by his son, Eric E. Counsil and sister, Sharon (Mike) Kotzur.
