Jean Elaine Merrill, 92, of Lock Haven, entered peacefully into eternal life on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, at her home. Her last days on earth were spent surrounded by her family.
Jean was born on May 6, 1932, to the late John, Sr. and Goldie (Bloom) Rhoads.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her former spouse, Charles L. Merrill, Sr.; a son, Charles L. Merrill, Jr., who sacrificed his life for this country in Vietnam; her brothers, John, Jr., Donald and Stanley Rhoads; a nephew, John "Jack" Rhoads, IV; and a grandson, Carl Merrill, Sr.
Jean created a huge family, which was where her heart resided. Surviving are her seven children, Carleen Merrill, Beverly Merrill, Paul Merrill (Dixie Brandt), Marilyn (Alvin) George, Kathleen Merrill (Dennis Winner), Valerie (Robert) Johnston and Troy, Sr. (Heather) Merrill; her grandchildren include Colton Confer, Amber Johnston (Josh Slegle), Kassie Johnston, Jennifer Jeirles, Curisa Ertwine, Catherine Merrill, Troy Merrill, Jr., Cody Weigle, Stacie Merrill, Shane (Brenda) Merrill, Shawn (Christine) Merrill, Keith Merrill, Travis (Brenda) George, Alvin George, Jr. and Meloney Merrill; great-grandchildren include Seth (Heather) Miller, Brice (Hannah) Royer, Cody (Abby) Bradley, Dekota Welker, Jessica (Scott) Sayers, Carl Merrill, Jr., Cierra Merrill, Christine England, Caitlin Hopkins, Shana Merrill, Cheyenne Merrill, Megan Merrill, Chase Johnston, Alvin George, III, Hailie, Aiden, Chelsea and Nicholas George, Elizabeth Sanders, Colleen George, Samantha Merrill and Paige Embick; a grandson-in-law, Chad Jeirles; many great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at 1 p.m., at Swissdale United Methodist Church, 974 E. Croak Hollow Road, Lock Haven, with Pastor Jack Hocker officiating. Interment will take place at Jersey Shore Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received at the church on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
