Danny Leroy Packer, 77, of Palmdale, Calif., died Jan. 3, 2025.

Born June 24, 1947 in Lock Haven, he was a son of Malcolm Packer and Ellen (Shady) Packer.

He was a graduate of Lock Haven High School.

Danny entered active duty in the U.S. Army on Aug. 20, 1965 in Lock Haven. He served in both artillery and infantry units in the famed 82nd Airborne Division and served in Vietnam for more than 15 months.

He became one of Clinton County's most highly decorated Vietnam War veterans as he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), Air Medal and a Silver Star Medal, the nation's 3rd highest award for valor in combat operations. He was honorably discharged from active duty at the rank of Sergeant on June 3, 1968 at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Packer, of Calif.; two daughters, Stacy Packer, of Nanticoke, and Heather (Trent) Peasley, of Lock Haven; and a brother, Stanley Packer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by brothers, Doug Packer and Larry Kunes.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
