Donald J. Spackman, 80, of Julian, passed away at home on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.
Born April 23, 1944, he was the son of the late John and Gladys (Stanton) Spackman, growing up on the family farm in Port Matilda. On Dec. 18, 1965, in Bellefonte, he married the love of his life, Beverly E. (Hackett) Spackman, who survives at home after sharing 59 years of marriage together.
Donald was a 1962 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. He went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Penn State University in 1966. He worked for NASA in Cleveland as a research engineer and was an instructor at Penn State. Eventually he took a position at Centre Community Hospital, retiring in 2004 as the Vice President of Facilities.
In addition to his wife, Beverly, he is survived by their two children, Jeff Spackman (Kathy), of Port Matilda and Chad Spackman (Beth), of Port Matilda; seven grandchildren, Dayton (Richanda), Abbie Kibe (Steve), Eli (Brandi), Emma Morris (Aaron), Laura Schneider (Joseph), Caleb, and Wyatt; and six great grandchildren, Olivia, Oliver, Olin, Ryleigh, Kinsleigh and Theodore. Being an only child, his extended family included the Gensamer Girls and the Fetzer Boys.
Donald was a lifelong and active member of the Martha United Methodist Church in Port Matilda. He loved the outdoors, whether he was hunting, fishing, skiing, or working on his family farm growing organic pumpkins and potatoes, you could always count on finding him outside somewhere.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, at 10 a.m., at Martha United Methodist Church, 194 Ardery Hollow Road, Port Matilda, with Pastor Bob Dornan officiating. Burial services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Donald to the Martha United Methodist Church, 194 Ardery Hollow Road, Port Matilda, PA 16870 or to the Port Matilda EMS, 402 S. High St., Port Matilda, PA 16870.
