With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Joseph E. Gannon, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Born on Aug. 7, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pa., Joe lived his life with love, laughter and an unshakable dedication to his family. He passed away on Feb. 17, 2025, at the age of 64, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom and cherished memories.
Joe was a loving father and stepfather to his children, Jamie Young, Stacey Rearick (husband, Jesse Rearick), Tina Gannon and Keith Chaplain. He took immense pride in being a dad, always making sure his children knew they were deeply loved and supported. As his children grew, he never missed an opportunity to spend meaningful and fun-filled moments with them, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
His love extended to his 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who were his greatest joy. Whether it was football, wrestling, baseball, soccer or cheerleading, Joe was always on the sidelines, cheering them on with pride. His unwavering support, encouragement and presence at their games and events made an impact that will live on in their hearts.
Joe was a beloved brother to his seven siblings, Rita Misal, Donna Gannon, Patty Hershey, Susan Fiske (Mike Fiske), Helen O'Donnell (Timothy O'Donnell), Irvin Gannon, Jr. and Rufus Gannon (Lori Gannon). Family was the foundation of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with his brothers and sisters.
Through all of life's changes, Joe remained best friends with his ex-wife and mother of his children, Julie Gannon. Their bond was one of respect, friendship and shared love for their family.
A hardworking man, Joe dedicated his career to manufacturing, working tirelessly to provide for those he loved. But beyond his work, he found true joy in life's simple pleasures.
He loved animals, especially his loyal dog, Jet, who he will be reunited with. He had a passion for gardening, finding peace in nurturing his plants and watching them flourish. He loved the tranquility of fishing, always eager to cast a line and enjoy the serenity of nature. His lifelong hobby of collecting coins was a reflection of his appreciation for history and the little things that made life meaningful.
Joe was a man of wisdom, warmth and humor. He always had fatherly advice to offer, guiding his children and grandchildren with words that came from experience and love. He believed in cherishing time with family, enjoying the simple moments and always showing up for the people who mattered most.
Joe is now reunited with his beloved parents, Irvin R. Gannon, Sr. and Rita I. Szymendera, who preceded him in death.
Though he is no longer physically with us, his spirit, love and the lessons he shared will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Joe's Life service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at 2 p.m., at Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, Pa. Reverend George Grossman will officiate.
Family and friends are welcome to honor his memory from 12 p.m. Tuesday until services at the Welker Funeral Home.
Following the service, there will be a time of food and fellowship at the Jersey Shore Elks Lodge, 203 N. Main St., Jersey Shore.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with your loved ones, cheer a little louder at a game or plant something in his honor -- just as Joe would have wanted.
Rest easy, Joseph. Your love, laughter and unwavering support will forever remain in our hearts.
