Bruce Keller Bowes

Bruce Keller Bowes, 97, of 110 Spring Meadows Drive, Venetia, PA., formerly of 142 Cardinal Drive, Dunnstown, passed away peacefully at St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa., on July 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 24, 1928, in Lock Haven, he was the son of Harry B. and Lillian Keller Bowes.

He was married to the former Janet Louise Forney on Sept. 26, 1952, who preceded him in death on July 19, 1989.

After graduating from Lock Haven High School in the Class of 1946, Mr. Bowes worked at Piper Aircraft where he learned to fly as a member of The Cub Fliers Club of Piper, attaining his private pilot’s license at age 18. He soloed after 4.5 hours of instruction and earned his pilot’s license before his automobile driver’s license.

After a brief employment with Piper and General Armature, the forerunner of Maremount Corp., he attended Taylor Business School in Philadelphia for a short time before returning to Lock Haven to work for New York and Penn Co., the forerunner of Hammermill Paper and International Paper Co., where he worked for over 40 years until retiring from the Data Processing Department in April of 1990.

He was a member of Lafayette Lodge #199, the BPOE of Lock Haven and the Hammermill Retirees Club. He was also a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church in Lock Haven.

Bruce enjoyed watching most local high school, LHU and Penn State sports activities, as well as professional sports on television. He enjoyed playing cards and using the computer.

Also preceding him in death, in addition to his parents and wife, were a sister, Jane Raymond (Wilmont); and a brother, Richard B. Bowes (Sarita).

Surviving him are a daughter, Debra Obrosky (Bob), of Venetia, Pa.; and two sons, Thomas (Betsy Jo), of Wyomissing, Pa., and Robert, of Dundalk, Md.

He was Pop-Pop to five grandchildren who loved him very much, Lauren White (Grant), Leslie Aizkalns (Jason), Steffanie Bowes, Rachel Gerloff (Joel) and Kevin Bowes (Jenna); along with 13 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moriarty Funeral Home & Crematory, 112 E. Church St., Lock Haven.
