Franklin D. ‘Frank’ Winter
Surrounded by his loving family, Franklin D. “Frank” Winter, of Millheim, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was 86.
Born April 4, 1939, in Spring Mills, Frank was a son of the late Reuben A. and Kathryn E. (Ripka) Winter.
He was a 1957 graduate of Penns Valley High School.
On April 30, 1958, he married Joyce F. (McCool) Winter, who preceded him in death.
Frank was employed as a press operator at the former Cerro Copper and Brass plant in Bellefonte, retiring with 39 1/2 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of the Millheim Fire Company with 40 of those years being active.
In his younger years Frank rode motorcycles, traveling to the Midwest with his friends, Ed Yearick and Marion Sharer, and his brother, Wayne. Frank was an avid boater, but he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and tinkering in his shop doing metal work. He also attended several coffee clubs in the local area.
Frank had a huge heart and would help anyone in need. He will be missed by his family and many friends.
Frank is survived by two daughters, Brenda Rossman (Terry), of Spring Mills, and Cindy Gramley (Gary), of Centre Hall; nine siblings, Pauline Stover, C. Sandra Zimmerman, Kay Stover, Fay McCool, May Long, Karen Copenhaver and Wayne, Dennis and Gary Winter. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Terra Deithorn (Eric), Jamie Smith (Tony) and Jesse King (Carolyn); one step-granddaughter, Adrean Fortuna; seven great-grandchildren, Memphis and Oaklee Rossman, Alexander and Bentley Deithorn, Wyatt King and Kora and Koty Smith; and five step-great-grandchildren, Lucas Shawley, Dyson Jenkins and Sara, Maggie and James Fortuna.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, Frank was preceded in death by a grandson, Brett Rossman; and seven siblings, Normie Coffy, Betty Albright, an infant sister, Georgie Winter, and Marlin, Randall, Paul and Robert Winter.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.
The funeral service follows at 1 p.m. with Pastor Stacy Sublett officiating. Frank will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery.
