Frederick B. Muthler

Frederick B. Muthler, formerly of Avis and Mackeyville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Nippenose Valley Village on July 15, 2025.

He was born to the late Raymond Muthler and Thelma (Yeager) Muthler on Sept. 18, 1932, in Monument, Pa.

Fred was a 1951 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

He married his beloved wife, the late Freda (Dorman) Muthler, on July 14, 1957.

In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was also preceded in death by his siblings, Helen (Muthler) Drake and Ronald Muthler.

After high school, Fred was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean War from 1953-1955, when he was honorably discharged.

Fred spent most of his career working in aircraft assembly at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven, Pa., and Lockheed Aeronautical in Marietta, Ga.

He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he spent time volunteering for the food pantry with his wife, Freda.

He also enjoyed gardening, baseball, bowling, coaching his sons’ Little League teams, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities and spending time with his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey Muthler, and his wife, Linda, of State College, and Craig Muthler, and his wife, Kris, of Jersey Shore. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brittney Camerer (Rich), Chelsea Hampton (Daniel), Lauren Tingle (Zach) and Collin Muthler (Nadia); and great-grandchildren, Kaysen Camerer, Olivia and Elijah Hampton, and Eleigha, Liliyah and Theodore Muthler.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Comfort Keepers Home Care, especially Roberta Ludwig, as well as the nursing staff at Nippenose Valley Village and UPMC’s hospice and palliative care.

Visitation will be Friday, July 18, 2025, from 2:30-3:30 p.m., at Helt Funeral Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, Pa., followed by a Celebration of Life service, with Minister Ed Coup officiating.

The burial and meal will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lamar.
