Ronald D. ‘Ron’ Markle

Ronald D. “Ron” Markle, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated community servant, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at The Gatehouse in Williamsport surrounded by family.

Born on March 1, 1939, in Binghamton, N.Y., Ron lived a full and meaningful life, reaching the age of 86.

Ron was known for his steadfast dedication to his family and community. He married the love of his life, Mary M. Fave, on July 9, 1960. Together, they celebrated over 65 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love and shared adventures, including cherished vacations with their family at Keuka Lake.

Professionally, Ron retired from Centre Concrete, where he served as a dispatcher for over 12 years. He also worked for Capital Homes, Darling Valve, AVCO and West Company contributing his talents and dedication to each role he undertook. Ron also worked many years for the Jersey Shore YMCA.

Ron enjoyed reading, singing in the community choir and staying active by participating in several 5K run/walk events.

A man of deep faith, Ron made pivotal contributions as an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Jersey Shore, where he served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister, sang in the choir, held multiple Bible studies, trained acolytes, and as part of the Search Committee, he facilitated many churches across the diocese in their search for new clergy. He received the Spirit of Diocese Award for exemplary service to the Diocese of Central Pennsylvania, and was a graduate of EFM, Education for Ministry.

His commitment to service extended beyond the church; he volunteered as a firefighter for Independent Hose Company No. 1 for over 20 years, serving as borough chief for two years. He was also a rescue scuba diver and served as the company chaplain beyond retirement.

In addition, Ron served his community as a Porter Township Supervisor, board member of the Sewer Authority and represented Porter Township as a member of the Police Commission.

Ron’s generosity knew no bounds. He volunteered through the diocese to assist with hurricane relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina, where he spent 2 weeks in Mississippi rebuilding homes; and throughout his lifetime, he selflessly donated 26 gallons of blood, saving many lives.

He is preceded in death by his grandson, Joshua Merryman; his parents, Omar and Helen (Race) Markle, Sr.; his sister, Flora Fetzer and brother, Omar Markle, Jr.

Ron is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Holly Temple (Robert), of Bellefonte; his son, R. Scott Markle, of Carlisle; and his daughter, Lori Hoy (Brian), of Lock Haven. He loved spending time with his four grandchildren, Ashley Merryman (Nik), Zach Thomas, Noah and Elijah Markle; and great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Merryman, who were the joy of his life. Along with his immediate family, he also had several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ron’s life at a funeral service on Friday, Aug. 1, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 176 Mount Pleasant Ave., Jersey Shore, with Father Andy Frantz officiating. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore. Interment will be in Jersey Shore Cemetery.
