Marie E. ‘Chub’ (Nicholas) Karstetter
Marie E. “Chub” (Nicholas) Karstetter, born Aug. 3, 1939 to the late Guy and Rosalie (Kelly) Nicholas, of Loganton, passed away at home on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025.
She married her best friend and soulmate Larry “Red” Karstetter on Nov. 21, 1959. They would have celebrated 66 years of marriage this November. They were blessed with one daughter Kelly (Marvin) Bixel.
Marie was formerly employed as a secretary by The Grit, of Williamsport, Pa.; The Sugar Valley Mutual Insurance Co, of Loganton; the Pajama Factory, of Williamsport; and the former Sugar Valley Elementary School, retiring in 2011 after 36 years of service. Second to her family, the Sugar Valley Elementary School was her passion. She was also the high school cheerleading coach for many years.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Loganton, where she served as sexton, council member, parish committee person and taught Sunday school. She formerly served as secretary/treasurer of the St. Paul Cemetery Association, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, a former member of the Community Club, opening show coordinator for the Clinton County Fair from 1995-2015, the Sugar Valley Community Picnic Committee and a tour guide and trip coordinator for Fullington Trailways for many years.
Marie was always ready to help anyone, anytime and could never say “No.”
Along with her husband and daughter, she is survived by a brother, Eugene (Heidi) Nicholas, of Loganton; a sister, June (Perry) McCaleb, of Tylersville; sisters-in-laws, Doris Nicholas, of State College, Pa., and Nora Nicholas, of Loganton; brother and sister-in-law Nelda and David Moore, of Oval, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, “Tiny.”
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two brothers, John and Donald Nicholas, and a sister, Doris Pottios.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 10 W. Main St., Loganton, PA (17747) with Rev. Ed Coup officiating. A viewing will be held in the church on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025 from 6-8 p.m., and also on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Final Interment will be held in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Loganton, Pa. Flowers will be provided by the family. Memorials may be made in Marie’s name to her church or to the Sugar Valley Volunteer Community Fire Co. #13, 24 W. Anthony St., Loganton, PA 17747.
