Joseph Fred Miller, Sr.
JOSEPH MILLER, SR.
Joseph Fred Miller, Sr., a deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather and beloved community fixture, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2025, at Jersey Shore hospital. He was 87. He was surrounded by his loving and adoring family, marking the conclusion of a life well-lived and dedicated to others.
Born in Renovo, Pa. on June 9, 1938, Joe was the son of the late Frank “Johnnie” and Isabella (Tarantella) Miller. He was a 1957 graduate of Renovo High School, where he was a standout football and baseball player.
Joe began his journey by serving his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. Following his military service, he attended Lock Haven State College where he studied mathematics and then had a diverse and successful professional career, working in banking, for Prudential Insurance, the Pennsylvania Railroad and ultimately retiring from Dominion Natural Gas Company.
Joe’s true passion was his family, but he also had a love for his community and the youth. Joe was a tireless champion for youth sports in Renovo, where he was instrumental in forming the Renovo Steelers Pee Wee football team and league and coaching several youth baseball teams. His dedication shaped countless young lives on and off the field.
He was a man of deep faith and fellowship, remaining an active and long-time member of St. Joseph and Holy Spirit Catholic parish, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks of Renovo and the Sons of Italy (Lock Haven). Joe was also an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his kids, and a passionate fan of Penn State football and wrestling, cheering on the Nittany Lions with unwavering loyalty.
Joe’s greatest joy and most enduring legacy was his family. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Rita (Severino) Miller. Their enduring marriage was a testament to commitment and unconditional love.
Together, they raised four wonderful children who survive him: Joseph Jr. (Billie), of Mill Hall; John, of Dunnstown; Jeremy, of Lock Haven; and Janelle, of Mill Hall.
Joe and Rita were further blessed with six cherished grandchildren, Joseph III (Mary Kate), Nicholas (Amber), Taylor (TK), Evan (Savannah), Kasie (Selvin) and Elliott, and three beautiful great-grandchildren, Joseph IV, Amelia and Dahlia. He is also survived by his loving siblings, Gracie Kisko of Renovo, Richard Miller of Lock Haven and Rita Welcomer of Maytown.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life at a gathering at the Gedon Funeral Homes and Cremation Services LLC., 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven, PA, 17745 on Saturday Dec. 6, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
