Albert J. Ries
Albert J. Ries, of Fort Myers, Fla., passed away peacefully on Dec. 15, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Philadelphia on Dec. 11, 1945, Albert was the son of the late Albert R. Ries and Ruth (Duffy) Ries. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and attended Temple University.
Albert spent many years working with Duffy’s eyeglass business before building a career in sales. He also worked at Connelly Containers and later C&E Containers in Jersey Shore, where he made many lifetime friends. Albert had an outgoing presence and a gift for conversation. He made a lasting impression on the people he met and took genuine pride in the relationships he built over a lifetime
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepson, Steven Thompson. Albert is survived by his devoted wife of twenty-six years, Janice; his son, Timothy (Ria) Smigelski-Ries, of Alexandria, Va.; his stepdaughter, Cheryl Thompson, of Boston, Mass.; his sisters, Anita Dudzek, Ruthann Nash and Marylu Chromiec; and his brothers, Paul Ries and William Ries. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
He and Janice enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, cruising and traveling to 47 states in their RV. He also enjoyed his daily walks with his dog, Rosy. She will miss him, too.
In accordance with Albert’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at a later date during a private family gathering.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
