Sara Louise (Young) Rote

Sara Louise (Young) Rote, 90, of Howard, found eternal rest in God’s loving embrace on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.

She was born on March 27, 1935, and grew up in Orviston. She was a daughter of the late Merrill and Violet (Miller) Young.

Sara was a Christian by faith and loved Jesus. She was a loving mother and an excellent cook who cherished preparing meals for family and friends, and she cultivated wonderful relationships through her many gifts and talents. One of Sara’s great joys in life was sharing the Good News with her beloved husband, Robert L. “Bob” Rote, whom she wed on Dec. 19, 1982, until his passing on Jan. 25, 2017. Together, they enjoyed their invaluable commonalities by singing hymns and spreading the gospel to churchgoers and residents of nursing homes alike. Another deep affection Sara had was for her companion cat, Bo, which is a testament to the strong and meaningful bond between humans and their animals. This enriched Sara’s life as Bo would sit next to her or on her lap when she embroidered beautiful and intricate fabric designs.

Specifically, Sara will always be remembered for her kindness and her deep devotion and unwavering faith in the Lord. A legacy her family is proud to acknowledge.

She is survived by three precious daughters, Diane (Terry) Day, of Marsh Creek, Vanessa (Joe) Brickley, of Blanchard, and Linnie Roeshot, of Boalsburg, as well as three admired stepsons, Bob (Lorna) Rote, of Bloomsburg, Brad (Marchal) Rote, of McElhattan, Scott (Barbara) Rote, of Brigantine, N.J., seven treasured grandchildren: Teddy, Robert, Tania, Chrissy, Jodi, Joey and Mark, two lovely step-granddaughters, Skyler and Devon, and many great-grandchildren. She also adored her two nephews, Skip Young and Scott Young.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a loving son-in-law, Dr. Douglas E. R. Roeshot, and her only dear brother, Paul Young.

A private service will be held at a later date.

Interment will be in the Schenk’s Cemetery, Howard.
