Betty Jane Rathgeber
Betty Jane Rathgeber
Betty Jane Rathgeber settled her worldly accounts in the early morn, Feb. 14, 2026, and peacefully departed across Jordan to be joined anew with her Savior and Lord.
Born in Lock Haven on Aug. 25, 1929, daughter of Foster and Lydia Gunsallus, of 522 S. Fairview St., Lock Haven, Betty was a graduate of Lock Haven High School, Class of 1947. She was a blessed member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, Fourth Street, Flemington, and an angelic voice of St. Luke’s Choir since 1953.
Betty was employed by the former Sylvania Electric facility in Mill Hall for 14 years. Afterwards, she attended technical school formal training to perform as an Operating Room Technician. Betty was employed 25 years at Williamsport Hospital as a Surgical Technician.
She enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1961, a Veteran of the Cold War.
Betty enjoyed a wide range of sports over the years and was especially fond of cross-country skiing and motorcycling throughout the Northern Tiers of Pennsylvania. Professional tennis was a favorite spectator sport. In later years, she embarked on an extensive tour across Brittan and post-war Europe, the Rhine Region and Swiss Alps being memorable favorites.
She completed a remarkable 15 1/2 years as a “Meals on Wheels” delivery driver, working out of the Lock Haven Senior Citizens’ Center, delivering meals to neighbors – the home bound and infirm — until her own health left her unable to continue. She was a faithful and devoted servant until the end.
Betty was preceded in death by both parents and close relatives; and is survived by her dear friend, Wendy Scheiderich, of Loganton; as well as adopted family still residing at the Lock Haven Rehabilitation and Senior Living.
Gifts “In Memoriam” of Betty Jane Rathgeber may be forwarded to The Clinton County Woman’s Center, Roads to Peace, 34 N. Main St., Lock Haven PA 17745.
Graveside services for friends shall be coordinated with the sunshine, fair winds and following seas. Visitation may be made at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
