Alma Jane (Pickering) Counsil

Alma Jane (Pickering) Counsil

Alma Jane (Pickering) Counsil reached her final destination, entering into the arms of her Lord and Savior, on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Alma was born in Lock Haven on Nov. 4, 1923, the daughter of Howard and Rhea Pickering. She spent her childhood years in Mackeyville before her family moved to Flemington.

Alma was a graduate of Lock Haven High School, Class of 1942.

It was in Flemington that she met the love of her life, Clyde L. “Pete” Counsil. On June 19, 1942, they were united in marriage, sharing 67 years before his passing in January 2009.

Together, they lived their entire lives and raised their six children, Eugene E. (Lois) Counsil, Jerome W. (Peggy) Counsil, Alicia (Robert) Peters, Sharon G. (Mike) Kotzur, Timothy C. (Cheryl) Counsil and William C. (Laurel) Counsil, in Flemington.

Alma was employed by American Color and Chemical Co. from the mid 60’s until her retirement in the mid 70’s.

She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Lock Haven, and then, for the past 20 years, a member of Great Island Presbyterian Church, Lock Haven.

Alma led a very active life. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother to all her family. She loved baking pies, canning and sewing for her family and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed! Additionally, Alma loved to garden and share her bounty with others. She really had a “Wonderful Life.”

Preceding Alma in death were her husband, Clyde (2009); daughter, Sharon Kotzur (2015); and most recently, her oldest son, Eugene (2025).

Along with her children, she was blessed to have 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 10 a.m., at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with Rev. Taylor Camerer officiating. Private interment will be at Flemington Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
