Bernice L. Capperella, 87, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026, in Bellefonte surrounded by her family. She was born on Nov. 25, 1938, in Aaronsburg, Pa., to the late Ralph Carl and Mae Ardrenna (Guiser) Kline. On June 20, 1959, she married her husband Frank A. Capperella, who preceded her in death on June 8, 2006.
Bernice was a graduate of East Penns Valley High School class of 1956. After graduation she moved and worked in Alliance, Ohio for 2 years then returned home and worked for “Old Man McLanahan” at McLanahan’s Drug Store. In 1968 she received her Cosmetology License and was always cutting hair for friends and family. She later worked in the family businesses: ComputerLand in State College and of course Capperella Furniture. What was most important to her was her family. A devoted mom, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.
Bernice is survived by her daughter Carol Capperella and her husband Christopher Bickford, of State College, her son, David Capperella, and his wife Traci (McMullin) of Bellefonte and three grandchildren, Hilary Henderson, and her husband Neil Spence, Eric Henderson, of Denver, Colo. and Dominic Capperella, of Bellefonte and two great-granddaughters, Elinor and Amelia Fineberg, of Bellefonte. Also surviving are her sister, Kathryn Mobley, and her sister and best friend, Bonnie Mitchell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Joan Bernice Capperella, and her siblings, Mervin Kline, Ralph Kline Jr., Russell Kline, Doris McWilliams, Evelyn Vonada, Betty Hess.
Bernice and her sister Bonnie shared a passion for serving others and together they traveled on mission trips to third-world countries with Mount St. Mary’s University. She also enjoyed bowling, tennis, volunteering at St. John’s Catholic School in Bellefonte and was involved with various events as a devoted longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., at the funeral home with Father Joshi Narisetti officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Bellefonte.
