Eugene R. Murray, 95, of Mingoville, passed away at home on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born on Oct. 1, 1930, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Eugene and Arta Elizabeth (Croyle) Murray. On July 17, 1954, he married the love of his life, Clara (Loretta) Murray, who survives at home after sharing over 71 years of marriage together.
Eugene was a graduate of Lewistown High School. He graduated from Williamsport Tech with a degree in carpentry. Eugene served in the Air Force A/1c 18th M.V.S during the Korean War. During his time in the service, he was award the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He worked as a cabinet maker in Ohio, a carpenter for PSU, subcontracted homes for New Deal Lifetime Homes, did commercial building as superintendent for BC&M, RNR and Haranin construction for 15 years until he retired.
In addition to his wife, Clara, he is survived by his children, David Eugene Murray, of Mingoville, and Annette Murray, of Mill Hall, two grandsons, Jesse and Matthew McCune; and four great-grandchildren Keira, Hailey, Murray and Otto McCune.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda McCune and a brother, James Franklin Murray.
Eugene was a member of the Zion Community Church since the mid 1960s. He served on the board for over 25 years and facilitated most of the reconstruction projects at the church. He was the longtime bell ringer announcing the beginning of church.
Eugene was a very generous man with his carpentry skills. He often would remodel or repair his friends’ homes with no charge. His hobbies included hunting, wood working, landscaping and most of all, watching the Pirates.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 10 -11a.m., at Zion Community Church, 3261 Zion Road, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Ed Bell officiating. Burial services with full military honors will immediately follow in Zion Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
