Gertrude A. Vonada, 95, of Zion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home in Milesburg, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Nov. 26, 1930, in Walker Township, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Laura (Wright) Yearick. In 1971, she married Fredrick Vonada, sharing years of companionship and devotion.
Gertrude attended Walker Township School and was known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her family. She worked full-time in food service at Penn State while also holding several part-time jobs, always striving to provide for those she loved. After 28 years of faithful service, she retired from Penn State.
A devoted member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Snydertown, Gertrude found joy in simple, meaningful moments. She especially loved tending to her flower gardens, where the beauty of colorful blooms brought her great happiness. She also enjoyed crocheting and took pride in creating thoughtful, handmade gifts for her family and friends. Above all, her greatest joy in life was her family. She gave selflessly and worked tirelessly to ensure they were cared for and supported.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Clarence H. Zeigler, and her daughter, Carol Franks, both of Zion. She is also survived by four grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her love and memory.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Fred, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Connie Brumgard; sons-in-law, Randy Brumgard, Sr. and Herbert Franks; her grandson, Randy Brumgard, Jr.; granddaughter, Laurie O'Connell; and 12 siblings. She was the last of her generation, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and dedication.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a public visitation on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 6-9 p.m., and again on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 9-11 a.m. at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Milesburg. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor David Pencek officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery.
