Stephen Andrew Sampsel

Stephen Andrew Sampsel, 70, of Bellefonte, Pa., passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Steve was born on Jan. 12, 1956, to the late Philip and Marjorie Sampsel.

Steve was a 1973 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School, where he participated in band and played basketball.

After graduation, Steve worked part-time at Penn State for several years at various jobs before becoming a full-time employee working at the PSU Powerplant until his retirement.

Steve had a compassion for stray cats; always providing food and shelter for them. Some of those strays ended up becoming his companions for years.

Steve is survived by his brother, Jeff Sampsel (Kaye), of Dover, Del.; and his sister, Jennifer Kellerman, of Bellefonte. Also surviving are his nephews, Bryan Sampsel and Andrew Kellerman; and his nieces, Sara Robison and Heather Donovan; as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Steve also leaves behind his companion and fur baby, Pearlie.

As per Steve’s requests, there will be no visitation or services.

The family would like to thank his friends that came by and sat with him during the end. They would also like to extend their most heartfelt gratitude to everyone from 365Hospice for their kindness and compassion during his final days they were truly amazing.
