TERRY BOWER
Terry Robert Bower, a dedicated and innovative aerospace engineer, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, at his home in State College, Pa. He was 66.
Known by family and friends for his passion for aviation, exploration and engineering excellence, Terry leaves behind a legacy that reached far beyond the skies.
Born on Aug. 18, 1959, in Bellefonte, Pa., Terry developed an early fascination with aviation, space and how aircraft worked.
This curiosity led him to earn a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Penn State University in 1981, after which he was selected to represent the United States at an international space convention in Rome, where he presented his thesis and met Russian cosmonauts.
He went on to build a remarkable 47-year career with RTX Corporation (formerly Raytheon Technologies), contributing to numerous government initiatives of national and international significance. Terry was widely respected for his precision, creativity, leadership and problem-solving skills. He took great pride in advancing technologies that helped ensure the safety and security of our nation.
Professional achievements aside, Terry was a kind friend and devoted parent, and deeply committed to his family. He was active in academic clubs, sports teams and community programs from a young age, and as an adult enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, bowling, computer games and traveling. He was also an Eagle Scout.
Terry is survived by his wife, Virginia; his mother, Yvonne Bower, of Madisonburg; his children, Marshall Bower, of Calif., and Grant Bower and his wife, Lydia Brough, of Fla.; his stepchildren, Jeffery Hancq and his wife, Mindy, and their children, Riley and Rebekah, of Ohio, and Christian Hancq-Woodford, of Fla.; as well as many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Bower; his sister, Karen Bower; his paternal grandparents, Paul and Marian Bower; and his maternal grandparents, Doyle and Elsie Hazel.
A private graveside service will be held for family at West Cemetery in Madisonburg, with Randy Muthersbaugh officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
Though Terry has departed this world, his contributions will continue to soar, inspiring future generations to reach for the stars, and beyond.
