Vera L. Brumbaugh
Vera L. Brumbaugh
Vera L. Brumbaugh, 88, of Howard, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026.
Born on July 4, 1937, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Miles F. Bartley and Florance (Neff) Grieb.
Vera was raised in Jacksonville, where she attended elementary school, and she went on to graduate from Howard High School in 1955.
On Sept. 1, 1956, she married the love of her life, Harold “Butch” Brumbaugh, in Jacksonville. They shared many years together until his passing on Aug. 2, 2004.
Vera devoted her life to her family as a homemaker, creating a home filled with warmth, care and steady love. She worked tirelessly to provide for those she loved, always putting family first and making sure they felt safe and supported.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, sewing, baking and tending to her flower gardens. Her gardens were a reflection of her gentle spirit and nurturing nature. Vera was also a member of the Howard Civic Club and the Howard United Methodist Church, where she found fellowship and community.
More than anything, Vera cherished time spent with her family. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in spoiling them and sharing in their lives. Those moments together brought her the greatest happiness.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Bradley Brumbaugh, of Bellefonte; Sheila Brumbaugh, and her wife, Theresa, of Harrisburg; Leslie Dissinger, and her husband, Tod, of Lebanon; and Rena Knarr, and her husband, Jim, of Crossfork; her grandchildren, April, Elizabeth, Emily, Katy, Jacob and Trevor; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia, Benjamin and Theodore. Vera is also survived by her sisters, Rose Phillips, of Howard, and Dorothy Harter, of Bellefonte; and one brother, Doyle Bartley, and his wife, Bonnie, of Howard.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven siblings and her grandson, Nathan Brumbaugh.
Family and friends are invited to a gathering on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon, in the fellowship room at Howard United Methodist Church, West Main Street, Howard.
A light lunch will be shared during the gathering, and all are welcome to come, visit and share memories of Vera.
A funeral service will follow at noon with Pastor Carrie Granche officiating. Burial will take place immediately afterward at Schenck’s Cemetery in Howard, Pa.
