Alan L. Bachman

Alan L. Bachman

Alan L. Bachman, 82, of Beech Creek, and formerly of Jersey Shore, South Williamsport and Nisbet, passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at UPMC Williamsport, the same hospital where he was born on March 10, 1944.

He was a son of the late John E.Y. and Margaret (Conway) Bachman. Alan was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. A Marine through and through, he carried the values of the Corps with him throughout his life, living faithfully by the principles of Semper Fi and forever honoring the Eagle, Globe and Anchor.

He was a graduate of South Williamsport High School, and using his GI benefits attended Williamsport Area Community College, and later graduated from Lock Haven State College with a degree in education.

Following his military service and education, Alan dedicated his career to helping fellow veterans. He worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Veterans Representative at the local CareerLink office and later retired as Employment Services Supervisor. Supporting veterans was not simply a job to Alan, but a calling rooted in his own service and deep respect for those who served their country.

Alan enjoyed gardening, hunting in his younger years, collecting antiques and memorabilia, and listening to the “oldies but goodies.” He was a collector at heart, with interests ranging from vintage beer cans and antique typewriters to model kits and countless unique treasures gathered over the years. He especially loved relaxing at “the Farm,” and collecting artifacts and data for his family genealogy project.

Many will remember Alan gathered around his pool table beneath the glow of vintage beer signs, listening to vinyl records playing on his beloved jukebox. He spent decades competing in pool leagues throughout the Lock Haven area, earning the unforgettable nickname “Balls Bachman.”

His family will forever remember his wildly unique Christmas gifts, his independent spirit and the determination with which he faced the challenges of multiple sclerosis for more than three decades. Despite the progression of the disease, Alan remained fiercely independent and true to himself.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Grant W. Bachman, a Marine Corps veteran, and J. Wayne Bachman, an Air Force veteran.

Surviving are his children, Shelley L. Moore (Todd), of Jersey Shore, Amy E. Bachman of Oval, and Timothy A. Bachman, of Jersey Shore; six grandchildren, who knew him as “Poppy,” Natasha Harkey, Evan Moore, Gabrielle Moore Huff, Allison Moore, Owen Staggert and Grayden Staggert; one brother, Gary Bachman (Sue), of Oval, a Navy veteran; several nieces and nephews; his children’s mother, Sherry Minnich; and his beloved cat, Conway.

Also surviving are his step-sons, Gregory Mancini (Susan) and Gary Mancini (Tess); their children, Ryan Barner, Dustin Mancini, Erica Mancini, Nathan Mancini and Amanda Mancini; a grandson; and their mother, Rose Bachman.

Never one to turn down a good time, a celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday May 20 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 10 until the time of service, Wednesday, at Sanders.

In remembrance of Alan, take time in your week to thank a veteran, walk in the woods, listen to an “oldie but goodie” from the 50s, 60s, or 70s, pet a cat, and lift a pint to all of life’s blessings.
