Clara Irene ‘Cis’ Shearer VanGorder

Clara Irene “Cis” Shearer VanGorder, of Lock Haven, passed away peacefully at her home on May 19, 2026.

Born on Dec. 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lillian Bower Shearer.

Clara was proudly crowned the 1951 Flaming Foliage Queen, representing Mill Hall.

On Nov. 1, 1952, she married the love of her life, Charles “Bib” VanGorder, Sr. Together they shared 61 years of marriage until his passing in 2013.

A devoted homemaker, Clara found joy in gardening, fishing and working on puzzle books. She treasured the time spent with her family and the simple pleasures of everyday life.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings and a grandson, Roman Caprio.

Clara is survived by her five children, Debra (Randy) Sosa, Barbara Copeland, Cindy (Jack) Caprio, Chuck (Flip) VanGorder and James (Cindy) VanGorder; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to UPMC Hospice, especially her nurse, Amber, for the compassionate care shown to Clara and her loved ones.
