Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ Craig Smith
Jeffrey ‘Jeff’ Craig Smith
Jeffrey “Jeff” Craig Smith, 67, of Howard, passed away peacefully at his home on May 5, 2026. He was the beloved son of James and Joyce Smith, who survive him.
Born on March 11, 1959, Jeff was a 1977 graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School and went on to earn two degrees from Williamsport Area Community College.
A skilled machinist, he excelled in many roles throughout his career, spending most of his professional life at Brodart in McElhattan. After decades of dedicated service, he retired in 2021; yet, as an irreplaceable employee, he continued part-time to see the company through its closure.
Jeff was known for being a detailed storyteller, a natural problem-solver and a devoted father and grandfather. He enjoyed hiking to the family’s rustic cabin aptly dubbed “The Cabin” and often shared humorous stories about his adventures there with his son-in-law, Ethan. In true Jeff fashion, he built a bridge to the cabin which is lovingly referred to as “Pappy’s Pass.”
In his free time, Jeff enjoyed hunting, fishing, rustic camping, backyard campfires, kayaking and fixing up old cars. If something needed fixed, Jeff found a way; he was a true MacGyver. If someone needed help, he was there to lend a hand. He cherished his Friday gatherings with his close friends, John and Sue Henry, and was a proud member of the Stone Duck Lodge. He was known for having amazing taste in pop culture, being an avid fan of Star Wars, Game of Thrones and classic 70s rock and roll, often seen at family gatherings in his favorite Pink Floyd T-shirt.
Jeff treasured time with his close-knit family, whether on the family farm, at reunions, for birthdays and for holidays. But his greatest job, the center of his world, was being a father and grandfather. He was his family’s voice of reason, chauffeur, confidant and best friend, and the emptiness left in his place is beyond measure.
Jeff is survived by his three daughters: Tiffany Zacher (Chris) of Muncy, Brittany Moore (Ethan) of Blanchard and Courtney Jade Smith (Dallas Zeigler) of Lock Haven. He is also survived by his siblings: William Smith (Kim), Amy Barnes (Ron) and Joni Bumbarger (Wes), all of Howard. Jeff leaves behind five grandchildren: Xander Zacher, TJ Zacher, Aurora Moore, Nova Moore and Link Moore, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand puppies, all of whom loved him deeply.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel United Methodist Church, 551 Hunter Run Rd, Howard, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeff’s name may be made to All Things Bright & Beautiful Day Care Center, 215 Prospect Ave, Avis, Pa. 17721, where he was lovingly known as “Pappy” by many.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wetzler Funeral Services in Howard, PA. Online condolences can be expressed to the family at www.wetzlerfuneralhome.com.
