Alice Gotschall Lloyd

Alice Gotschall Lloyd

Alice Gotschall Lloyd, a former resident of Woolrich and Nippenose Valley Village, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Haven Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Lock Haven at the age of 101.

Born on April 15, 1925 to Edward H. and Etta Knarr Gotschall of Plunketts Run, she graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1943. After high school, Alice graduated from the Marinella School of Beauty Culture in Philadelphia in 1946. She worked for several local beauty shops including: James Caprio Harper Method Beauty Shop, Frances Beauty Shop and the Lycoming Hotel Beauty Shop. Throughout her life, she continued her training and earned numerous additional certifications. She owned and operated a salon in her home in Woolrich for 30 years, and even after retirement she donated her skills and services to the Susque View Beauty Shop clients.

On April 24, 1954, Alice married the love of her life, Calvin A. Lloyd, whom she affectionately called “Cal.” Together they lived in Woolrich for over 40 years. Cal’s passion was trains and railroads and they were both members of the National Railway Historical Society for 25 years. Traveling the USA by train was something they both enjoyed, and they visited 48 states by rail and/or car. After Cal’s passing on December 3, 2001, Alice visited both Alaska and Hawaii, and she was proud to say that she had visited all 50 states.

Alice always liked to stay active and busy, which she would say contributed to her long life. She did so by donating her time to many local organizations including: Woolrich 4H, LH Hospital Auxiliary and hospital volunteer, Woolrich Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary (founding member) and the Mill Hall Church of Christ. Her church was extremely important to her, and she worked hard to get youth involved. She taught Sunday School for 54 years, was a youth sponsor for 16 years and was the Junior Church Coordinator for 17 years. She also made it a priority to focus on the seniors of the church — she was the coordinator of the Senior Citizen Fellowship of the Mill Hall Church of Christ for 23 years and played in the Senior Citizen Fellowship Kitchen Band.

Alice G. Lloyd is survived by sisters: Janie Herman (Tom, deceased); Judy Briggs (Wayne, deceased); Connie Peiffer (Ed) and Mary Saiers (Jim), and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings: Margaret Probst (Fount, deceased), Edward Gotschall, Jr.(Sylvia, deceased), John Gotschall (Betty, deceased), Jim Gotschall (Cheryl) and Ruthe Mensch (Carlton, deceased).

Alice’s words were “To smile in celebration for the life of Alice Gotschall Lloyd,”
