Althea J. Watkins, 75, of Howard, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Haven Place in Lock Haven.
Born in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Marie Merrill Switzer.
On Feb. 28, 1970, she married the love of her life, Raymond G. Watkins. Together they shared 48 years of marriage before his passing on March 9, 2018.
Althea dedicated 25 years of service to the City of Lock Haven, retiring from her position at City Hall. She was a faithful member of Beech Creek Wesleyan Church and a lifetime member of the Lock Haven V.F.W.
Family was at the center of Althea’s life. She cherished time spent with her loved ones and friends, especially at family cookouts, dancing and trips to the ocean. In recent years, she enjoyed playing bingo and participating in activities at Haven Place. She also found pleasure in working crossword puzzles, coloring and creating special memories with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved.
Althea is survived by her children, Edith (Dean, Sr.) Burfield, of Monument, John (Brenda) Watkins of Howard and Kathy (Lynn Jr.) Duck of Howard; her brother, Donald (Mary Ellen) Switzer of Clarion; her sister, Helen Hawk of Jersey Shore; two grandsons, Dominic (Abbie) and Bryce (Ashlynn); four great-grandchildren, Austin, Paisley, Kanyon and Sawyer; and a great-grandchild expected in September.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cecilia Watkins; a grandson, Dean Burfield, Jr.; and four sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High Street, Flemington, with Rev. Alan Eckenroad officiating.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Private burial will be held at Schenck’s Cemetery, Howard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Haven Place.
